Crispy Tofu & Satay Sauce
You Will Need:
For the Tofu:
1 block extra firm tofu
1 boullion cube
1 tablespoon tamari
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 tablespoon cornstarch (or arrowroot/potato starch)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
spray oil
For the Peanut Sauce:
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1 tablespoon lime juice
1/2 tablespoon sesame oil
1/2 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
1 tablespoon water
1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sriracha (optional)
How to Make:
Prep the Tofu: Press tofu to remove excess moisture and break off into small bite size chucks. Transfer to a heat-safe bowl and crumble a boullion cube over the tofu. Por boiled water over the tofu until covered an let sit for 10 minutes. Drain the tofu well and transfer to a large bowl.
Coat Tofu: To the bowl, add tamari, rice vinegar, garlic, paprika and pepper and toss. Then add the starch and olive oil and toss tofu chunks until evenly coated.
Air Fry: Arrange tofu in the air fryer and cook until crispy or alternatively pop on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for roughly 15-20 minutes. Flip the tofu pieces and bake for a further 10-12 minutes until golden and cripsy.
Make Peanut Sauce: Whisk together ingredients for peanut sauce (you may need to pop the peanut butter in the microwave to soften)
Serve: Drizzle the peanut sauce over crispy tofu and enjoy!
This is great on its own or you can use this tofu recipe to add crispy tofu on top of any recipe - pasta, curries, salads, tacos etc.
